Stefanie’s Biography:

Focusing her practice on anxiety, perfectionism, people-pleasing, and recovery from religious trauma, Stef understands that our brains can be absolutely incredible and, on the other hand, totally treacherous. She also understands that being human can be, even on the best days, really damn hard.  Anxiety, although it has good intentions, often makes daily life feel heavy and exhausting; perfectionism and people-pleasing erode self-confidence and constrain our closest relationships, despite how often they’re motivated by a desire for connection and safety; living with unresolved pain from the past can make it hard to be present with what really matters to us now. Stef wants you to take heart, though: good therapy with a therapist who has been there, knows that life is an often strange mixture of sorrow and joy and everything in between, and knows how hard it can be to live with a brain that never seems to “turn off”, can help. Please note that Stef keeps her practice scope narrow, focusing primarily on the concerns listed above and other related issues, to ensure that her clients receive the very best of her therapeutic skillset.

Stef has eight years of experience as a therapist and is trained in various evidence-based therapies like Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT), Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing (EMDR), and Inference-Based Cognitive-Behavioural Therapy (I-CBT), among others. In Stef’s view, good therapy is a collaborative process that should help us gain insight into ourselves, empower us to live out our values, and give us an opportunity to make sense of and recover from painful past events that have hurt us. Knowing that our brains are wired for survival and not necessarily happiness (unfortunately), Stef’s approach focuses on helping people befriend their brains and the parts of themselves that frustrate them, while also helping them identify and step out of patterns that generate struggle and strife. Her overarching goal is to help you shift from coping with life to genuinely living it and being incredibly brave—even on the really tough days.

Stef invites you to bring your unvarnished self to each session and is committed to meeting you exactly where you’re at. She has a down-to-earth style, is allergic to “therapy speak” and won’t sling clinical jargon at you, and brings a healthy dose of humour into her work. She loves seeing her clients become more trusting of themselves, develop the courage to confront their fears, and live their lives in alignment with what matters most to them.

Above all, Stef really wants you to know that you’re not struggling like this because you’re weak, incapable, or doomed. Life can be quite absurd and being human is just really tough sometimes, even when you're doing your best to cope. She would love to help you reclaim some joy, befriend the emotions that are hard to feel, and live with courage, regardless of what life (or your brain) is throwing at you on any given day.
