If you’ve spent years wondering why deadlines slip through your fingers, why your desk (or your inbox) never stays organized no matter how many systems you try, or why sitting through a single meeting downtown feels harder than it should, an adult ADHD assessment can turn that guesswork into a clear answer. Transformation Counselling now offers in-person adult ADHD assessments at our Ottawa office, a short walk from Parliament Hill and the ByWard Market.

Attention-deficit/hyperactivity disorder doesn’t always look like the stereotype of a fidgety child. In adults, it often shows up as chronic time-management struggles, difficulty starting or finishing tasks, a pattern of underperforming relative to your actual ability, or relationships strained by forgetfulness and impulsivity. Many adults who book an assessment with us have suspected ADHD for years — sometimes since childhood, but never had it formally evaluated. A diagnosis (or a clear “it’s something else”) gives you a starting point for real solutions, whether that’s therapy, coaching, medication, or workplace accommodations.

How An ADHD Psychological Assessment Works

Assessments at our Ottawa office are conducted by Dr. Stefane Kabene, Clinical Psychologist, who specializes in psychological assessments for adults. Working directly with a clinical psychologist means your assessment carries full diagnostic weight, the resulting report is recognized by employers, universities, and other healthcare providers for accommodation and treatment purposes.

  1. Getting started. A brief intake call or form lets us understand what’s brought you in and gather any relevant history — school records, prior reports, or notes from a family doctor, if you have them.

  2. The clinical interview. You’ll meet with Dr. Kabene for an in-depth conversation covering your developmental history, current symptoms, and how they show up across different areas of your life — work, relationships, and daily routines, along with standardized ADHD rating scales.

  3. Questionnaires and Testing. Depending on your unique assessment, questionnaires and testing, such as cognitive or executive-function testing, may be added to rule out overlapping conditions like anxiety or learning differences, which can look similar to ADHD on the surface. Additional questionnaires will be used to help confirm an ADHD diagnosis.

  4. Your report and results. You’ll receive a detailed written report outlining the findings, a clear diagnostic conclusion, and specific, actionable recommendations.

  5. Next steps. Whether the result points to ADHD or something else, Dr. Kabene will walk you through practical next steps, therapy, coaching, medication consultation with your physician, or formal accommodation letters for work or school.
