Dr. Reis’ Biography:

I am a Clinical and Counselling Psychologist, duly registered with the College of Psychologists of Ontario and the Board of Psychologists in Prince Edward Island, and I also have a courteous registration in Nova Scotia. I obtained a doctorate in Clinical Psychology from the University of Toronto in 1995 and have been a psychologist for almost 25 years. I have trained and worked as a psychologist in adult mental health departments in hospitals, post-secondary settings, and private practices. I assess and treat adolescents and adults from a wide variety of cultural contexts with “complex” presentations including chronic pain, trauma, mood and anxiety disorders, autistic spectrum disorders, psychoses, and personality disorders. My interventions and various treatment modalities include, but are not limited to, cognitive-behavioural therapy, behavioural activation, schema therapy, Gestalt therapy, and solution-based therapy.

At the University of Waterloo, I worked as a case manager and therapist at Student Psychological Services; supervised other psychologists at Health Services and Disability Services; coordinated workshops for health professionals; worked as a provider for the Employee Assistance Program (EAP); and served as the Chair of the University’s EAP program for 16 years.

Since 1988, I have conducted disability assessments and provided treatment for the psychological sequelae of motor vehicle and industrial accidents. Moreover, I am on the roster of the Workplace Safety and Insurance Board (WSIB) and also assess and treat First Responders involved with the RCMP and National Defence. I have been instrumental in developing and coordinating a number of community-based mental health programs and currently serve as the director on a number of not-for-profit organizations that provide mental health support at the community level. I am actively engaged in determining innovative and creative ways to provide high-quality care in the mental health field.

While operating two of my own private practices, I also have strong community affiliations with other practices within Ontario. Since 1989, I have been consulting with the Read Clinic in Toronto, providing psychological assessments in the disability and rehabilitation sector. I also provide psychological services at a private practice in Waterloo. In addition, with my recent registration in Nova Scotia, I have become a consulting psychologist with Lifemark. Recently, I joined Transformation Counselling, where I am available to assess and treat adolescents and adults with a wide range of presenting issues, and provide professional supervision to psychotherapists. In my spare time I write children’s stories.
