Sherley’s Biography:

Sherley holds a Master of Social Work (MSW) degree from Wilfrid Laurier University and is a registered member of the Ontario College of Social Workers and Social Service Workers (OCSWSSW) in good standing. She also holds an Hon. Bachelor of Arts in Sociology and an Advanced Social Research Specialization. Sherley’s education and passion for social justice allows her to integrate both psychological and social factors into her therapeutic approach.

Sherley has 3 years of psychotherapy and social work experience providing individual and group therapy to adults and adolescents. Prior to obtaining her MSW, she worked in community mental health and development for 10 years supporting marginalized communities and vulnerable populations, including the disability/developmental sector, BIPOC and 2SLGBTQ+ groups. With an interest in trauma and early development, whether that’s exploring how childhood experiences manifest in adulthood or providing early intervention to vulnerable youth, her clients have found her open demeanor and in-depth exploratory approach empowering.

Sherley’s professional and personal journey has informed her values in promoting resiliency and community. She practices holistically, believing that all factors of a person’s identity (such as childhood, social supports, gender, race, culture) are interwoven pieces in one’s therapeutic journey.  Using a lens of attachment theory and modalities including Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT), Dialectical Behavioural Therapy (DBT), Emotion-Focused Therapy (EFT) and Parts Work, Sherley uses a trauma-informed and integrative approach to cultivate a treatment plan that is adapted to individual needs. Sherley focuses on understanding the roots of problems in order to shift from “band-aid solutions” towards deeper and meaningful healing.

In her free time, Sherley enjoys reading fantasy and thrillers, true crime podcasts, going to the gym, connecting with nature and hanging out with her dog.
