Salmon Arm sits on its own bay of Shuswap Lake, and in late fall the town gathers around a concert hall, a holiday village downtown, a lakeside wharf and a Nordic area in the hills. For couples, that means live music, a festive weekend downtown and fresh snow are all within easy reach, along with quiet waterfront walks between the busier nights. It is a town where a simple evening out can turn into a favourite memory. Every plan below comes from what Salmon Arm venues and organizers have published for the 2026 season.
Concerts at Song Sparrow Hall
Irish Mythen: On Saturday, November 28, Irish Mythen brings big vocals and stories to Song Sparrow Hall. Doors open at 6:30 p.m. and the concert begins at 7:30, so arrive early, settle into your seats and let the songs carry the evening. The hall's listing notes recognition from Music PEI and the East Coast Music Association and coverage in Rolling Stone, and the show is open to all ages, so it suits a relaxed evening with friends as well as a night for two.
Warren Miller's Days Off: On Saturday, December 5, the hall screens Warren Miller's Days Off in support of the Larch Hills Ski Team. Expect a silent auction and door prizes alongside the film, and leave inspired to plan your own ski days. Every ticket helps local young skiers, which makes the night feel good on more than one level.
A Holiday Weekend Downtown
Salmon Arm's Yuletide Village: From November 27 to 29, the Yuletide Village returns to downtown Salmon Arm, and Santa is on the guest list. Wander the village together, pick out a small gift for each other and take a photo with the festive scene behind you.
CPKC Holiday Train: The Holiday Train rolls into Salmon Arm on Thursday, December 17, with a stop from 8 to 8:30 p.m. at 51 Lakeshore Drive NE. Sam Roberts Band and Owen Riegling perform from the train, now in its 28th year. Organizers describe it as a celebration of generosity and community, so dress warmly, bring a food bank donation and find a spot near the tracks early. Hearing a full rock set from a train car on a cold December night is a date you will retell for years.
Art in the Heart of Town
Salmon Arm Arts Centre: The public gallery at 70 Hudson Avenue NE opens Tuesday to Saturday from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. Check the exhibitions page for the next show, then spend an unhurried hour choosing a favourite piece each and explaining why. Because it sits right downtown, the gallery fits neatly before lunch or a coffee on a weekday off, and it pairs well with a Yuletide Village visit in late November.
Lakeside Walks at Marine Peace Park
Wharf and Raven Trail: Marine Peace Park at 750 Marine Park Drive NE is home to a 440 foot freshwater wharf reaching into Salmon Arm Bay. Walk out to the end together, then follow the 4 km Raven Trail along the waterfront, a favourite with bird watchers. On a crisp, clear day it is one of the simplest and best free dates in town. The 35 foot square gazebo near the wharf makes a handy meeting point if you are coming from different directions.
Snow Days and Ice Time
Larch Hills Nordic: Just 20 km from town, Larch Hills offers more than 170 km of ski trails, about 60 km of them regularly groomed for classic and skate skiing. There are 17 km of snowshoe trails, a dedicated canine trail if your dog comes along, and lit trails for night skiing. Once the snow arrives, ski a loop at dusk and watch the lights come on. Until then, the society notes that the trails are open for fall use, so a November hike on the trails gives you a preview of your winter routes.
Public Skating: The Shuswap Recreation Society posts public skate times for its arena on its schedule page, with changes over the winter holidays. Pick a session, skate a few laps hand in hand, then head downtown for something warm.
Sample Date Itineraries
1. Village and Song (Nov 28): Yuletide Village → dinner downtown → Irish Mythen at Song Sparrow Hall
2. Train Night (Dec 17): Sunset walk at Marine Peace Park → the Holiday Train at 8 p.m. on Lakeshore Drive
3. Ski Weekend: Warren Miller's Days Off on December 5 → Larch Hills trails once groomed
