Elora is a stone village on the Grand River in Wellington County, Ontario, known for its old mill and a downtown that glows once the holiday decor goes up. From mid November the streets fill with lights, carols and makers, and the nearby town of Fergus adds a busy theatre calendar. These ideas use only what Elora organizers and local venues have posted for the 2026 holiday season.
Lights in the Village
Elora Christmas Market: From Saturday, November 14 through January 3, 2027, the market opens every Wednesday to Sunday from noon to 8 p.m., and it is free all season. More than 88,000 twinkling lights, designer cedar chalets of artisan goods and outdoor fire tables turn downtown into a festive stroll. The organizers suggest parking in the large paid lot beside the Elora Mill Condos, then crossing the pedestrian bridge into the village, where the Hallway of Lights marks the entrance. Catch a classic Christmas matinee at the historic cinema, then wander back out once the lights come on.
Starlight Shopping: The Elora business association runs Starlight Shopping on November 19 and 20 and again on November 26 and 27, with shops open from 11 a.m. to 9 p.m. Use one of those evenings for a slow gift hunt together, when the holiday decor is lit up after dark.
Holiday Greenery and Lights: The business association describes the village as beautiful by day with its holiday greenery and glowing at night once the lights come on. Take an unhurried walk past the decorated homes and shopfronts, admire the views over the gorge from the village streets, and pick a favourite window display each. Snow only makes the scene prettier, so a flurry is a reason to go, not a reason to stay home.
Studios and Songs at the Arts Centre
Elora Centre for the Arts: The arts centre at 75 Melville Street throws open its working artist studios for its annual Open House on Saturday, November 28 and Sunday, November 29 from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Admission is free, and you can shop for handcrafted gifts while you explore the historic building. Come back on Saturday, December 12 at 8 p.m., when singer songwriter Jeffrey Martin plays a concert presented by Noisemaker, with doors at 7.
Festival of Carols
The Elora Singers: The Elora Singers sings its Festival of Carols at St. John's Anglican Church, 36 Henderson Street, with Jonathan Oldengarm at the organ. Choose from five performances: 5 or 8 p.m. on Tuesday, December 15, or 2:30, 5 or 8 p.m. on Wednesday, December 16. An evening show followed by a walk through the lit streets makes a lovely pairing.
A Museum Christmas Market
Wellington County Museum Christmas Market: Between Elora and Fergus, the Wellington County Museum and Archives at 0536 Wellington Road 18 hosts its Christmas market on Friday, November 27 from 4 to 9 p.m. and Saturday, November 28 from noon to 5 p.m. Vendors fill both the museum and its Heritage Barn, with live music, local food and a visit from Santa. On other days the museum galleries open weekdays from 9:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. and weekends from 11:30 a.m. to 4 p.m., a calm way to spend a winter afternoon together.
Stage Shows in Nearby Fergus
Fergus Grand Theatre: A short drive away in nearby Fergus, the Grand Theatre has a packed holiday season. Irving Berlin's White Christmas runs November 20 to 22, followed by Swan Lake from November 26 to 29. Anne Murray: Snowbirds and Love Songs plays November 30 at 7:30 p.m., the Mudmen perform on December 2, and The Rogerson and Friends bring A Cozy Cabin Christmas on December 5. Operation North Pole fills the stage from December 11 to 20. Pick a musical for one of you and a concert for the other, and make it a two date season. The Township of Centre Wellington also keeps a page about the theatre on its own website.

Pro Tips for Memorable Dates
The Christmas Market is closed Mondays and Tuesdays, so plan weekday dates for Wednesday to Friday.
Visit in daylight for the decor and stay past dusk for the lights.
Elora Gorge Conservation Area is closed for the winter season, so enjoy the river views from the village instead.
Festival of Carols has five showtimes; matinee seats suit couples who prefer an early night.
Check the theatre listing for exact showtimes on multi date runs.
Dress warmly for the market, since the fire tables and chalets are outdoors.
Lit chalets, carols in a stone church and a stage just up the road give Elora couples a full holiday calendar to share.
