Yaletown Date Ideas: Creative and Fun Date Ideas for 2026

Yaletown sits on the north shore of False Creek in downtown Vancouver, where old brick warehouses and railway loading docks now share the streets with glass towers, marinas and a seawall. The heart of the neighbourhood is the Roundhouse, a heritage railway building turned community centre. In late fall and winter, Yaletown offers a historic steam engine, an indoor makers market, a candlelit solstice labyrinth, a gallery art auction and misty waterfront walks. These date ideas for November and December are built around Yaletown places and events with official details posted for the season.

Climb Aboard Engine 374

  • Engine 374 Pavilion: Beside the Roundhouse at Davie Street and Pacific Boulevard, a glass pavilion holds Canadian Pacific Railway Engine 374, a restored steam locomotive cared for by the Railway Museum of British Columbia. From November to March it is open daily from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m., and it is closed on Christmas Day, Boxing Day and New Year's Day. Climb into the cab together, ring the bell and lean out the window to call "all aboard." The pavilion is run by volunteers from the West Coast Railway Association, who keep the engine as part of their museum collection in Squamish. Ask them a question or two about the locomotive, then step outside and look for the railway history built into the Roundhouse itself.

Portobello West Holiday Market

  • Portobello West at the Roundhouse: On November 28 and 29, from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m., Portobello West brings its holiday market indoors to the Roundhouse at 181 Roundhouse Mews. More than 69 local B.C. makers sell handmade goods, and there is free live music and entertainment while you shop. Portobello West is celebrating 20 years as a makers market this season, and the organizers call the Roundhouse Yaletown's historic railway station, which makes it a fitting spot to shop for gifts. The market runs rain or shine, so it works on even the wettest weekend. Each of you picks one booth to show the other, and ask the maker how their work is made.

The Winter Solstice Lantern Labyrinth

  • Labyrinth of Light: On Monday, December 21, the longest night of the year, the Secret Lantern Society lights a labyrinth of more than 500 beeswax candles at the Roundhouse for its 33rd Winter Solstice Lantern Festival. The Yaletown labyrinth runs from 5 to 9 p.m. with timed entry every half hour, and tickets go on sale November 15. Plan to arrive 15 minutes before your time slot to check in. A second labyrinth runs elsewhere in the city that night, so make sure your ticket is for the Roundhouse. Walk the glowing path slowly, side by side, and share one hope you have for the new year at the centre.

Silent Art Auction at Kostuik Gallery

  • Kostuik Gallery Silent Art Auction: Starting November 20, the Jennifer Kostuik Gallery in Yaletown holds its 18th annual Silent Art Auction, with more than 30 works by established artists. Opening bids start below each piece's listed value. Even if you are only browsing, it is a fun game: each of you secretly picks a favourite, then reveal your choices at the door.

David Lam Park and the Seawall

  • David Lam Park: At 1300 Pacific Boulevard, David Lam Park opens onto the False Creek seawall, a short walk from the Roundhouse. On a winter afternoon, walk the seawall along the water and watch the city lights come on as the sky gets dark. Bring a thermos of something warm and find a bench to watch the sunset together.

Sample Date Itineraries

  • Market weekend: Shop Portobello West at the Roundhouse, visit Engine 374 next door before it closes at 3 p.m., then walk the seawall from David Lam Park.

  • Solstice night: Take an early evening walk along False Creek, then join your timed slot at the candlelit labyrinth on December 21.

  • Art and history afternoon: Browse the Kostuik Gallery auction, then ring the bell on Engine 374 and stroll Yaletown's brick streets.

Pro Tips

  • Go early for the engine: Winter hours at Engine 374 end at 3 p.m., so plan it before evening plans.

  • Get labyrinth tickets ahead: Timed tickets go on sale November 15, and only a few door tickets are sold, cash only.

  • Stay in one spot: Engine 374, Portobello West and the Yaletown labyrinth all happen at or beside the Roundhouse at Davie Street and Pacific Boulevard, so you can pair two ideas without a long walk in the rain.

  • Pack rain gear: Vancouver winters are wet, so bring an umbrella for seawall walks.

  • Confirm the day of: Hours and events can change, so check each official page before you go.
