White Rock curls along Semiahmoo Bay at the southern edge of Metro Vancouver, a small seaside city with a long sandy shoreline, a famous wooden pier and a hillside uptown full of local shops. Late fall brings misty mornings, early sunsets over the water and a waterfront that glows for the holidays. These White Rock date ideas cover mid November into December, built from what the City and local organizations have posted for 2026.
The Pier and the Promenade
White Rock Pier and Promenade: The promenade runs almost the whole length of the beach, so you can wander from East Beach to West Beach with the ocean beside you the entire way. At the centre stands the 470 metre wooden pier, first built in 1914 and rebuilt after a fierce December storm in 2018 tore part of it away. Walk out to the far end at sunset and pick a favourite light on the far shore. Leave the dog at home, since dogs are never allowed on the pier.
Pier Lights: Since 2018 the pier has carried accent lights that change colour for causes and seasons. The City's 2026 schedule shows multicolour lighting on November 28 and 29, December 1 and 2, December 13 to 20 and December 22 to 31. Blue and white take over from December 4 to 12 for Hanukkah and again on December 21 for the first day of winter. Check the schedule, then time your stroll for the colour you like best.
Bright Walk Opening Night
Bright Walk in White Rock: On Saturday, November 28, from 4 to 8 p.m., Memorial Park lights up for a free evening of festive entertainment. The 20 foot Christmas tree is lit at 5 p.m., there is live music on the main stage, and the first 300 people receive a glowing necklace. Arrive just before four to claim a necklace each, then stay for the tree lighting together.
Shopping and History by the Tracks
White Rock Museum and Archives Christmas Craft Market: From November 14 to December 22, the museum at 14970 Marine Drive fills with artisan vendors selling everything from decor to jewellery. It opens Tuesday to Sunday from 10:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. and closes Mondays. Set a small budget, split up for twenty minutes, and meet back with a surprise for each other.
Uptown Gallery and Public Art: Up the hill, the Uptown Gallery at 15140 North Bluff Road showcases work by local artists, and the City also runs an artist in residence program there. Use the City's public art map to plan a walk between pieces, and choose the one you would most like to take home.
Panto Season
The Little Mermaid Panto: The White Rock Players' Club, now in its 82nd year, stages a panto version of The Little Mermaid at the Oceana PARC Playhouse, 1532 Johnston Road, from December 2 to 27. Evening shows run Wednesday to Saturday at 7:30 p.m., with Sunday matinees at 2:30 p.m. and extra afternoon shows on December 6, 13, 19, 20, 26 and 27. Previews on December 2 and 3 cost $25, while regular adult seats are $34. Panto means cheering, booing and singing along, so leave your shyness at the door.
On the Ice
Centennial Arena Public Skate: Lace up for a public skate on Wednesday evenings from 6:30 to 7:45 p.m. or Saturdays from 5:30 to 6:45 p.m. Adult admission is $6.25 and skate rentals are $4, so this is one of the most affordable dates in the city. Hold hands on the slow laps and race each other on the fast ones.
Sample Date Itineraries
1. Bright Walk Saturday on November 28: The museum craft market in the afternoon → Memorial Park at 4 p.m. for Bright Walk → a stroll on the multicolour pier.
2. Panto matinee Sunday: A morning walk along the promenade → The Little Mermaid at 2:30 p.m. → an early dinner uptown.
3. Uptown and on ice: The Uptown Gallery and a public art loop → Saturday public skate at 5:30 p.m. → hot chocolate after.
4. Hanukkah lights by the bay: A Wednesday public skate at 6:30 p.m. → a short drive down to Marine Drive → the pier glowing blue and white any evening from December 4 to 12.
Pro Tips for Memorable Dates
The museum closes on Mondays, so plan market visits for other days.
Panto previews on December 2 and 3 are the cheapest seats of the run.
Bring layers for the waterfront, since the wind off the bay feels colder after dark.
Check the pier lighting schedule before you go to catch a colour you love.
Public skate admission for adults is only $6.25, and helmets rent for $1.75 if you want one.
The museum sits on Marine Drive near the pier, while the gallery is uptown on North Bluff Road, so plan a short drive between the two.
Bright Walk opening night gets busy, so arrive early for the necklaces.
White Rock packs a lot of charm into a small stretch of coast. Pair the pier with a show, a skate or a market, and the evening will feel like a getaway.
