Scarborough is Toronto's eastern edge, where white cliffs drop to Lake Ontario and quiet neighbourhoods hide gardens, a free museum and a busy community theatre. It also holds the city's zoo, which glows with giant lanterns after dark this season. These Scarborough date ideas stay east of Victoria Park Avenue and stick to what is posted for late 2026 and early 2027, so you can plan a date without a trip downtown.
Cliffs, Gardens and Lake Views on the Bluffs
Scarborough Bluffs: The bluffs run for kilometres along the lake, and two parks make easy date stops. Bluffer's Park at 1 Brimley Road South sits at the bottom with a parking lot and a beach, perfect for a late-day shoreline stroll. Cathedral Bluffs Park at 24 Lyme Regis Crescent is up top with big views but no lot. Farther east, East Point Park at 101 Copperfield Road has a lot and a trail down to the lakefront from the end of Beechgrove and Copperfield Road. The cliffs themselves come from sediment laid down more than 12,000 years ago and carved by wind and waves, which gives a simple walk a sense of deep time. The City warns that the edge is unstable, so stay behind the fences and well back from the drop.
Rosetta McClain Gardens: At 5 Glen Everest Road, this City garden sits right on top of the bluffs. A pergola frames wide views of Lake Ontario, and the fountain and rose beds come with braille signage. The garden has its own parking lot, so it is an easy first stop. Bring a thermos and find a bench facing the water.
Art and Ruins at Guild Park
Guild Park and the Clark Centre for the Arts: Guild Park at 191 Guildwood Parkway is a forest garden scattered with stone facades and sculptures saved from old Toronto buildings. The Clark Centre for the Arts inside the park is free and opens 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. most days, staying open to 8 p.m. on Wednesdays. It is closed on statutory holidays, and free parking is limited. From November 3 to December 3, the Beach Photo Club fills the gallery with work that ranges from realistic to abstract, including macro shots and intentional camera movement, with a reception on November 7 from 1 to 3 p.m.
Free History in Thomson Memorial Park
Scarborough Museum: Set in Thomson Memorial Park off Brimley Road, this museum shares the stories of the area's early settlers and the community that grew up since. Admission is free, and it opens Wednesday to Sunday from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. Parking is free, and the 21 Brimley bus from Kennedy Station stops outside.
Curtain Up on Kingston Road
Anything Goes at the Scarborough Village Theatre: Scarborough Music Theatre stages the Cole Porter shipboard musical at 3600 Kingston Road from November 5 to 21, 2026. Evening shows start at 8 p.m. on November 5, 6, 7, 12, 13, 14, 19 and 20, with 2 p.m. matinees on November 8, 15 and 21. Community theatre makes for a warm, close-to-the-stage night out.
Lanterns After Dark at the Zoo
Glow in the Wild: The zoo reopens after dark for a walk among giant illuminated lanterns until January 3. It runs mostly Thursday to Sunday, with extra nights over the December holidays, but not on December 24 or 25. Walking a lit path hand in hand on a cold night is about as cozy as an outdoor date gets.
Toronto Zoo by day: At 2000 Meadowvale Road, the zoo is open every day of the year, from 9:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. through March 12, 2027, with last entry an hour before closing. Even on Christmas Day it opens from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. Parking costs $20.
Holiday Marketplace at the zoo: On November 14 and 15, from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m., local makers set up near the front entrance. It is free with regular zoo admission, so you can browse gifts and then go see the animals.
Sample Date Itineraries
1. Lookout to lakeshore: The pergola at Rosetta McClain Gardens for the lake view → a short drive down to Bluffer's Park → a slow walk along the beach before sunset.
2. Wednesday among the facades: A late afternoon wander through Guild Park → the Clark Centre for the Arts, open until 8 p.m. on Wednesdays → dinner on Kingston Road.
3. Sunday matinee on November 15: The Scarborough Museum when it opens at 11 a.m. → lunch nearby → Anything Goes at 2 p.m. at the Scarborough Village Theatre.
Pro Tips for Memorable Dates
Cathedral Bluffs Park has no parking lot, so drive to Bluffer's Park if you want an easy spot.
Glow in the Wild skips December 24 and 25, so plan your lantern night around Christmas.
The museum and Guild Park cost nothing to visit, which keeps a first date simple.
Zoo parking is not included with Glow in the Wild entry.
Winter paths on the bluffs can be slippery, so wear boots with good grip.
Scarborough proves you do not need to go downtown for a great night out. Pick a cliff top, a lantern trail or a front row seat, and make the east end your own.
