Lake Country, British Columbia, sits between Kelowna and Vernon on Okanagan, Wood and Kalamalka lakes, with communities that include Winfield, Oyama and Okanagan Centre. In late fall and winter the beaches quiet down, and dates shift to Creekside Theatre shows, free public skating at Winfield Arena, the indoor museum and cold weather walks on the Okanagan Rail Trail and lakeside regional parks. These date ideas for November through early spring are built around Lake Country places and events with official details posted for the season.
Shows at Creekside Theatre
Creekside Theatre: Creekside Theatre is Lake Country's stage for concerts and holiday shows through November and December. Mid November picks include The Bros. Landreth on Friday, November 13, the Lake Country Big Band's 66 Years of Musical Memories on November 14, Matt Dusk's A Very Sinatra Christmas on November 18, John Muirhead on November 19 and The Late Boomers on November 21. Later dates include daysormay on November 27, Royal Tusk on December 6, Oh Come All Ye Soulful on December 17 and Ben Dunnill on December 19. Ticket Seller also lists the same venue calendar if you want seat maps before you buy. Pick a night, dress warm for the walk in, and compare favourite songs on the drive home.
Peter Pan Panto: From December 3 to 13, Pixie and Dot Productions and Sassafras and Co. fill Creekside with Peter Pan Panto, an all ages holiday show with cheering, booing and musical mayhem. Evening shows start at 7 p.m. and weekend matinees at 2 p.m., with a relaxed performance on December 3. Come ready to be loud together. The running time is about two hours and twenty minutes with an intermission, so plan a snack stop nearby afterward.
Skating at Winfield Arena
Winfield Arena: At 9830 Bottom Wood Lake Road, Winfield Arena runs free public skating on Sundays from 3 to 4 p.m. and Wednesday nights from 7:15 to 8 p.m. Friday is DJ Skate Night from 7:30 to 9 p.m. There are no skate rentals or sharpening on site, and helmets are recommended, so bring your own gear. All ages are welcome at the free family friendly public skates.
Holiday free skate blocks: Beyond the weekly free sessions, the district posts extra free public skate times through the holidays, including blocks from December 21 into early January 2027. Check the calendar for the exact day you want, then race each other once around the rink.
Lake Country Museum and Archives
Lake Country Museum and Archives: The museum at 11255 Okanagan Centre Road West tells the story of the district. In winter, after Labour Day through mid May, it is open Monday, Wednesday and Saturday from 1 to 4 p.m., The museum sits in Okanagan Centre across from the lake. Wander the galleries slowly and each choose the local story that surprised you most.
Okanagan Rail Trail
Okanagan Rail Trail: The Okanagan Rail Trail runs through Lake Country along Wood Lake and beyond as a multi-use path for walking and riding. The Lake Country section uses compact crushed aggregate. Go while there is still daylight, watch your footing in cold weather, and pick a stretch with lake views for a slow winter walk side by side. The trail is billed as a four season path for all ages and abilities, though the full route is not yet continuous near the airport, so stay on the developed Lake Country sections.
Lakeside Regional Parks
Kaloya and Kopje Regional Parks: Kaloya and Kopje are RDCO regional parks in Lake Country with lake shorelines for a short winter walk and views. From mid October through December the regional parks are open from 6 a.m. to 6 p.m., and some vehicle entrances close for the winter season, so check access before you go. Keep the visit to a walk and a lakeside pause, not a summer beach day. Leave the swim gear at home and bring a thermos instead.
RDCO park directory: For maps, dog rules and which entrances are open, use the Regional District of Central Okanagan park and trail directory before you leave home.
Sample Date Itineraries
Wednesday skate and museum: Visit the museum in the afternoon while it is open, then free skate at Winfield Arena from 7:15 to 8 p.m.
Panto weekend: Catch a Peter Pan matinee or evening show at Creekside, then take a short daylight walk on the Rail Trail the next morning.
Concert and lakeside stroll: Book a November Creekside show, arrive early for a calm walk at Kaloya or Kopje while the park is still open, then head to the theatre.
