Cobourg is a small Lake Ontario town with a long sandy beach, a working harbour and a grand 1860 town hall at its heart. Off-season, the waterfront gets quiet and the stage and gallery inside Victoria Hall take over. Here are Cobourg date ideas for late 2026 that work as well in November as they do in summer.
A walk on Victoria Beach
Victoria Beach: More than a kilometre of white sand stretches along the lake in front of Victoria Park, and the beach is open daily from 7 a.m. to 11 p.m. In the cooler months you'll often have it nearly to yourselves. Walk to the water's edge, then wander west toward West Beach and its naturalized Ecology Garden.
Out to the East Pier lighthouse
Cobourg East Pierhead Lighthouse: The little lighthouse on the east pier has guided boats into Cobourg's harbour for more than a century; it turned 100 in 2024. Walk out past the marina for a photo, then look for the historic marker for the Cobourg and Peterborough Railway, whose four-kilometre wooden trestle once crossed Rice Lake. Along the harbourfront, lamp posts carry work by Indigenous artists Koren Smoke and Rick Beaver.
Art upstairs at Victoria Hall
Art Gallery of Northumberland: On the third floor of Victoria Hall, the regional gallery shows work by local, national and emerging artists in a neoclassical building from 1860. Don't miss the James Cockburn Gallery, where Built Legacy: The Clench Family is on now and tells part of the story of one of Canada's founding figures. The main gallery changes its shows every few months, so there's usually something new.
Tribute nights at the Concert Hall
The Concert Hall at Victoria Hall: Inside the same building, the restored Concert Hall hosts concerts, plays and musicals all season. The 2026 and 2027 calendar includes the Sweet Water Country Music Series, the Lions Club Concert Series, Northumberland Orchestra Society concerts and a long list of tribute shows. Browse the box office together and pick a band you both love.
Public art around downtown
Downtown public art: Make a game of finding Cobourg's public art. Start at the bronze statue of Fern Blodgett Sunde in Victoria Park, honouring the first woman to serve at sea during the Second World War. Then head up to King Street for William McElcheran's businessman sculpture, the town's first outdoor artwork, and cut through Henley Arcade to the ferry mural on First Street.
Sample Date Itineraries
1. Harbour afternoon: A walk on Victoria Beach → out to the East Pier lighthouse → hot drinks downtown.
2. Dinner and a show: Dinner on King Street → a concert at the Concert Hall at Victoria Hall.
3. Art crawl: The Art Gallery of Northumberland → the Fern Blodgett Sunde statue in Victoria Park → the ferry mural on First Street.
Pro Tips for Memorable Dates
Beach washrooms close after Thanksgiving, so plan stops downtown.
Dogs aren't allowed on Victoria Beach, and bonfires are prohibited.
The West Beach boardwalk is being rebuilt, so check the Town's page before planning a stroll there.
Buy Concert Hall tickets through the Town of Cobourg box office.
The lake wind can be strong on the pier; bring a warm layer.
Cobourg makes a lovely low-key date. Pair a beach walk with an evening inside Victoria Hall, and you'll see both sides of this lakeside town.
