Discover our impactful school-based mentoring programs designed to support the healthy development of children and youth across the Waterloo Region. Through volunteer-led initiatives in local schools, we help students build confidence, foster resilience, and create brighter futures.
In-School Mentoring Program – One-on-One Mentorship
Our In-School Mentoring program matches students in Grades 1–8 with caring adult mentors who visit weekly during the school day. These matches are based on shared interests and school location. Children gain emotional, social, and academic support from a consistent role model who helps them feel more connected and confident at school.
Commitment: 1 hour/week during the school year
Location: On school property
Referral Process: Through the child’s school (parents/caregivers must speak to school staff)
Game On! – Boys Group Mentorship Program (Ages 11–14)
Game On! is a group program for boys aged 11–14 focused on healthy, active living. Through structured activities and guided discussion, participants build self-esteem, develop good habits, and stay physically active.
Commitment: 2 hours/week for 7 weeks
Group Size: 8–12 participants
Led by: Two trained volunteers
Topics Include: Physical activity, healthy eating, decision-making
Go Girls! – Girls Group Mentorship Program (Ages 11–14)
Go Girls! empowers young girls aged 11–14 to make informed choices about health, nutrition, self-image, and physical activity. Through fun, engaging sessions led by positive role models, girls gain tools for lifelong wellness.
Commitment: 2 hours/week for 7 weeks
Group Size: 8–12 participants
Led by: Two trained volunteers
Mind & Motion! – Inclusive Health & Wellness Program
Mind & Motion! combines elements of Go Girls! and Game On! with expanded content focused on mental health, stress management, and cyber/social media safety. This inclusive program is open to all youth, regardless of gender identity.
Commitment: 2 hours/week for 7 weeks
Group Size: 8–12 students
Led by: Two trained volunteers
Topics Include: Mental wellness, digital safety, healthy lifestyle habits
