John has also undergone his own healing journey, which has included:

  • 16 years of his own counselling with therapists who specialized in CBT, EMDR, Psychodynamic Therapy, IFS, DBR, and Family Systems Therapy

  • 16 years of meditation practice

  • 16 years of studying psychology, world religions, and spirituality

  • 8 months of living in monasteries around the world, including the TaizĂ© Community (Christian) and Plum Village (Buddhist)

  • 5 years as a member of Al-Anon, a 12-step group for families and friends of alcoholics, during which time he worked the Twelve Steps of AA

  • Walking across Spain (800km) on the Camino de Santiago
